Device Compatibility

Development of Chronos began in 2003, and in that time there have been many changes in the devices we use. When we started, our mobile platform was Microsoft Windows Pocket PC. Now we primarily use Android and iOS.

Chronos is continually updated to support the latest Operating Systems and technologies. All of these updates are included in your subscription costs, so you will know that you can always update to the latest versions whenever you want. As new Operating Systems are released, we work to ensure that any changes don't stop Chronos from working. When new features and capabilities are added to devices, we research how we can make use of them. This has led to many features such as GPS device tracking and Push Notifications to be added.

Chronos is currently available on the Operating Systems below. Click one for more information.

Windows

Chronos Desktop is compatible with all versions of Windows from XP onwards. Tested with Windows 10 Anniversary Edition. There are no minimum specifications.

Android

Chronos Mobile supports Android devices from Gingerbread onwards. Tested with the current builds of Android Nougat (N). Compatible with all screen sizes, Chronos will adapt between tablet and phone screens to show the correct form layout. Some features such as survey capture require a tablet rather than a phone device, as the screen size on a phone would render the experience frustrating. If you're thinking of using a particular device for a project, send us the details of the device and the Chronos product and we'll advise you on compatibility.

iOS (Apple)

Apple is more restrictive with their devices than Android vendors. Consequently, there are only a few devices to select from so compatibility is rarely an issue. We have tested Chronos Mobile on iPhone 5 / 6 and on iPad versions from the Mini upwards. Because Chronos Mobile requires certain iOS features, it will not run on the original iPad or iPhones 3/4. If you need asistance in checking compatibilty, please contact us and we will advise.

Web

The Chronos Web Portal allows access to a small part of the functionality of Chronos Desktop. You can view jobs, manage devices and allocate jobs to users for example. More functionality will be added over the coming months. We use the Bootstrap framework, meaning that the pages are fully responsive and will resize themselves correctly on whatever screen size you're using. We have tested with desktop browsers - Internet Explorer, Microsoft Edge, Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, and with mobile browsers on Android and iOS. Because the site uses modern standards, it is unlikely that you or your customers will have any issues using the site.
